If you want to check whether a tour package suits your physical readiness or not, this guide will help you through the physical activity level of our tour packages. All of our tour packages have a physical rating badge that is graded on a scale of 1 to 12, with 12 being the most challenging and they are categorized into 4 colours. This will show the relative difficulty of our walking, hiking, trekking, climbing or ski holidays. In turn, these grades are divided into YELLOW (Leisurely), GREEN (Moderate), BLUE (Challenging) and RED (Tough). Our simple, colour-coded grade symbol provides an indication of the difficulty of each trip.
Surely, there are many different factors that contribute to the difficulty of a particular tour package, including, length of day, terrain, type of accommodation, altitude and weather conditions. Since some of these factors are necessarily changeable, any system of grades can only provide a general indication. Although we have tried to make our grading system as clear as possible, it cannot take into account your personal interests, abilities or experience. If you have any questions about the nature of a particular trip or its suitability for you, please read the detailed Trip Notes and if you are still unsure please do not hesitate to Contact us.
However, most of our adventure holidays fall into the category of Trek & Walk. These range from short, possibly hotel-based holidays involving a series of day-hikes, to extended trips into wilderness areas with a full trek crew and porter or pack-animal support. The following grades should be considered in conjunction with each individual holiday description.
The rating system is simple: The higher the level, the more challenging the trip.
Yellow 1-3 Leisurely
Suitable for most people in good health, these trips include only short hours of walking which is predominantly on good paths and at low altitude.
Green 4-6 moderate
Suitable for reasonably fit individuals, such as weekend walkers & nature hikers, holidays at this grade generally include relatively short walking days at moderate altitude, on good paths and tracks. There can be the occasional more difficult day.
Blue 7-9 challenging
Physically challenging holidays, where you need to be prepared before you go. Holidays at this grade are suitable for regular hill walkers who are used to extended days and can involve difficult and sometimes glaciated terrain, as well as lengthy periods at high altitude.
Red 10-12 Tough
Our toughest holidays, involving many long days, often in isolated areas and at extreme altitude. May also include difficult pass crossings, requiring basic mountaineering skills and equipment. A high level of fitness and previous wilderness and mountain experience is essential.
